Recorded after a day of tracking rhythms for an upcoming United Disco Organisation release, bassist Neil Innes conceived an Afro-Disco masterpiece – complete with a tantalizingly long percussion-heavy intro reminiscent of Manu Dibango infused with extra Tony Allen groove. Joined by the UDO home team, including Neil, Chris Dawkins on guitar, Joost Hendrickx on drums, and Danny Templeman on percussion, the magic was set in motion.
Richard Ormrod, a regular at ATA, added his signature sax style with an exceptional alto solo, hinting at the track's potential as an instrumental. However, it didn't quite fit the album's vibe and was shelved temporarily.
Enter K.O.G., who, during a studio visit for another project, was captivated by the unnamed Afro-Disco rhythm. Inspired by Neil's suggestion to infuse the track with empowering lyrics, Kweku and his backing singers crafted a soul-stirring anthem reminiscent of Ebo Taylor's timeless classics.
